I am a Kurdish girl. I was born in a society where being a boy has always been a great value and privilege. Being a woman has been associated with a world of fences that stretches from birth and you have no choice to live in a fence, or to be full of wounds and destroy these fences since childhood. You have to fight for the smallest truth. A struggle that has many penalties, and perhaps in most cases one of the penalties is ignoring your femininity. And I paid this ransom!
I had forgotten about this for several years until I saw Tanya. She wanted to be a singer, and in order to become a singer, she had to prove to everyone that she was not a girl. Because she lived in a society where women only had to get married, wash, cook and etc, but Tanya had chosen not to be a woman but to live freely. She dressed and walked like a man.
During the years that Tanya had been trying hard to sing and find a way for herself in this field, more than ever, she had forgotten about her femininity. Because she did not want others to restrict her, just because she is a woman. But now the same society that deprived her of her femininity wanted her to be a woman again. Because singing and performing for a girl needed feminine beauty and tenderness.
But can Tanya be a lady again today? Varnish her nails? And to fall in love as a woman?
